INGREDIENT BENEFITS
Saccharomyces boulardii
As a probiotic yeast, S. boulardii actively promotes healthy gastrointestinal flora, strengthens intestinal barrier function, and enhances immune function. S. boullardii has been shown to ensure that foods and nutrients from the diet are properly absorbed, while blocking the entrance of potentially harmful substances. It has has been shown to promote healthy microbial balance by competing against harmful bacteria.
Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-14)
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a beneficial bacteria strain that is normally found in the intestinal tract and mouth and is commercially used in dairy products for the production of acidophilus-type yogurt. L. acidophilus ferments various carbohydrates to produce lactic acid, which increases the absorption and bioavailability of minerals, including calcium, copper, magnesium and manganese.
Lactobacillus plantarum (Lp-115)
Lactobacillus plantarum is beneficial bacteria commonly found in fermented foods including sauerkraut, pickles, brined olives and sourdough. L. plantarumhas been found to compete against strains of Clostridium difficile and Clostridium perfringens, due to the production of bacteriocins (lethal proteins) that inhibit bacterial growth.
Bifidobacterium lactis (BI-04)
Bifidobacterium lactis is predominantly found in the colon. A double-blind, randomized placebo-controlled trial on subjects receiving B. lactis or placebo for eight weeks found that B. lactis supported a balanced immune response in individuals hypersensitive to environmental allergens.
Signs and Symptoms of Deficiencies
Symptoms of deficiency may include:
- Upset stomach. Stomach disturbances like gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and heartburn can all be signs of an unhealthy gut.
- A high-sugar diet.
- Unintentional weight changes.
- Sleep disturbances or constant fatigue.
- Skin irritation.

- Food intolerances.
Medication Nutrient Depletion
Many medications can deplete your intestines of healthy bacteria. Consider taking Dr. Joe’s Optimal Probiotic if you are also taking one of the following medications:
- Antibiotics
- Laxatives
- Sulfonylureas
This supplement is recommended strictly to address any nutrient deficiency cause by these drugs and not intended as an alternative to the drug therapy.
