I went to my eye doctor and he did a standard eye exam. Shortly after we looked at the pictures and specifically the back of my eye. At this point, the Doctor regretfully informed me that I had a condition called Macular Degeneration. My immediate response was “what should I do about it, what are my options?” To my surprise the answer was nothing… “There is nothing that can really be done, this will continue to get slightly worse and the best case scenario is that it stays the same.” The true worst case scenario for Macular Degeneration is that you lose your eyesight. For those wondering what Macular Degeneration is I’ll quote the Mayo Clinic: “Macular degeneration causes loss in the center of the field of vision. In dry Macular Degeneration, the center of the retina deteriorates. With wet Macular Degeneration, leaky blood vessels grow under the retina.” The Doctors only recommendation was that I should take some antioxidants in hopes to slow down the progression but that was the end of the conversation.

Roughly 2 years later I went back for a follow-up exam and the Doctor took a new set of pictures. We then put both sets of images side by side for comparison but the Doctor didn’t speak. He stopped, checked the dates, re-checked the dates and began to shake. You can only imagine what it is like to sit with a silent Doctor, waiting for their explanation… After a while, I began to think the worst “did I do something wrong? Am I going to be blind? Do I have a brain tumor!?!?” Finally, I asked him what was wrong. The doctor paused a moment longer and said “I don’t know what you’ve been doing but your Macular Degeneration is getting better” I explained that I had been taking Dr. Joe’s Super Greens and Dr. Joe’s Essential Source since my first visit. The doctor then exclaimed, “whatever it is you’re doing don’t stop, it’s working.”

A few years later, I went back and the same thing. The Macular Degeneration continued to improve. Fast forward a bit and last year I went back and had another exam. They had a new doctor on staff and she joined us to go over the xrays. She knew nothing about my case so when looking at the images she seems confused. I smiled knowing what was going on and asked her if there was a problem. She said no, I just think the pictures are out of order. My smile continued to grow and I explained: “no the pictures are in the right order, my Macular Degeneration has improved.” She couldn’t believe it. She looked over them again and again and said this just is not possible, your Macular Degeneration has improved 60-80%. She continued to say, this just is not possible, it’s unheard of. Very politely she asked if she could submit my images and records to a journal that specializes in Macular Degeneration to which I answered “absolutely!” Since that day, the clinic has sent all of their patients with eye issues to us for nutritional counseling and supplement protocols.
