Can Turmeric really help with diabetes? The answer looks like… Yes! Now, this is really exciting because so many people have diabetes. When patients come into my office, the number 1 medication they are on is for blood pressure. The number 2 is kind of tied between diabetes and cholesterol. So, if there is something else we can do to help with diabetes, I want to know about it. There is a study of 240 adults, and they found that taking curcumin, which is the active ingredient in Turmeric, over nine months, lowered the odds of developing diabetes in pre-diabetic subjects. If you have family risk, if your family has a history of diabetes, if you don’t have a good diet, you want to do everything you can to reduce the odds or your getting diabetes. So you may want to add Turmeric to your diet. There are not any down sides to taking Turmeric, and there are many benefits. Just to be clear it won’t happen overnight.
